Deliriously Delightful Delhi

Delhi is widely known as the capital of India, considered an enigmatic yet spell-binding country. Comprised of relatively-distinct zones, Old and New Delhi, this state is a meld of ancient architecture and modern marvels. As legend would have it, the capital was believed to be “Indraprastha,” the birthplace of the “Pandavas” from the longest epic ever produced in the world, Mahabharata;. Given the prestigious history it has, Delhi; is one of India’s pride when it comes to the its richly-filled cultural traditions and monuments. Delhi

Old Delhi can be considered as the ancient side of the capital. Known for its majestic mosques and massive monuments, this side of Delhi is truly a “backpacker’s dream.” The front-running tourist spot would be the Red Fort which is locally called Lal Qila. This huge fortress was built when Emperor Shah Jahan decided to proclaim Delhi as India’s capital during 1638. As a fitting reminder that this will be the new capital, the emperor had this fort built with walls out of red sandstone, hence the name. With an expansive length of 2 kilometers, and a varying height ranging from 18-33 meters; the Red Fort was constructed for almost a decade (1639-1648) due to its grandiose size. Just sitting opposite this magnificent fortress is the famous Chandni Chowk, which is known as one of the largest wholesale markets in India. Popular for offering a wide array of items: agricultural products, textiles, footwear, glass pieces, and even electronics; this market is often crowded with shoppers and merchants.

New Delhi on the other hand, is an emerging cosmopolitan part of the capital. Peppered with high-risers, hospitals, clubs, pubs, hotels, cinemas, and auditoriums; locals and tourists alike can savor a plethora of night activities from watching concerts and movies, drinking the night away at famed bars, trying out the diverse Delhi cuisine, and the like. Having New Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport with its amazing parking services similar to the wonderful amenities sites such as what Parking4less; offers, tourists feel much more at ease travelling and leaving their rented vehicles; therefore spending more time exploring the capital’s famed spots rather than worrying the whole time. As such Delhi, both its Old and New sides, epitomizes what a cultural wonder should be: deliriously delightful.
